The Truth About Urban Education

OMG what a crazy day. The moon was full last night and it does have an effect on behavior. I wonder if anyone has ever completed research on this phenomenon. It could be worth investigating. But I digress. I should've known it would be crazy because I was attacked by several fellow teachers before I could get into my classroom. You see I was absent yesterday and apparently the substitute teacher was horrible. I walked in to find my desk a complete mess. It looked like the sub left everything where it was and just walked out the door. I was told that the children were screaming and running around the room (this has never happened in my classroom before). None of the lesson plans I left were completed. To top that off some items were stolen from my file drawer and the remote control for the overhead projector was/is missing. Which is a big problem because I use the overhead a lot. Needless to say the day did not progress well at all. Oh by the way, I find out that a district evaluator is coming to my room to complete an evaluation sometime that day. Yeah for me. I can honestly say that I've had better days. Can't wait for Spring Break, I need it bad.

Okay, so I've been teaching for a while. But not in a truly urban school. So here's an example of an urban experience. Today, I got my 25th student. Her name is Carribbean. So now every time I hear her name I'm going to hear Billy Ocean rolling through my mind. All jokes aside, 25 students without an instructor assistant. That's a 25:1 ratio and I'm supposed to work miracles with that. Yeah right.
